Deaf and Hard of Hearing students who participate in mainstream education benefit from educators who adapt and modify traditional teaching methods to meet their students individualized needs so that they might achieve the highest level of academic success using a Bilingual - Bicultural approach. Incorporating a variety of learning theories into teaching practice within the classroom can assist teachers establish which technologies promote learning. Learning theories provide a framework for educators to reflect on their teaching practices that they can understand why they have made their instructional choices.
Situated Cognition Theory
Display closed captioned videos on a projector or Smart Board where students are able to access resources using visual and auditory outputs.
Cognitive Load Theory
Display content visually on digital boards and mobile devices.
Problem Based Learning
Provide access to interactive Apps that provide opportunities for collaboration, exploration and real world experiential learning.
